RumChata

The RumChata mini (50 ml) comes in a white plastic bottle with gold lettering and a description proudly declaring it to be “Caribbean Rum With Real Dairy Cream”.  It is gluten free and requires no refrigeration.

Opening the bottle reveals a white liquid that smells of rum and cinnamon and a hint of eggnog, prompting me to add it to my eggnog being as it is the day after Christmas, after all.

It was fabulous!  The perfect complement to eggnog.  I put the whole thing in about 6 oz of the nog and stirred it with my chopstick, yum!

It made me curious as to other ways to enjoy RumChata so I went to their website and here are some recipes that I look forward to trying in the future:

RumChata White Russian

Combine in a rocks glass over ice.

RumChata Chai Tea

Brew hot tea and pour RumChata over. Enjoy!

RumChata Raspberry Sorbet

Combine in a shaker with ice. Strain over ice into a rocks glass.
Ye gods!  I want to try all of these!  RumChata is definitely on my list of keepers and here’s my technical analysis:

Bottle Esthetics: White, plastic, a solid “Meh”
Scent: Rich and comforting.  Sweet, cinnamon, rum and vanilla.
Viscosity: Thick and creamy
Taste:  Equal parts of cream and rum, not too sharp of an alcohol flavor.
Versatility:  Good in anything with coffee, chocolate, tea… so fairly versatile.  I suspect it would make a great pairing with an apple or peach liquor to make an apple pie or peach cobbler drink… Mmmmm…
Overall Score:  7 out of 10
